The University of Southern Maine Libraries and the Dr. Charles A. Scontras Center for Labor and Community Education have set up a location for a a Maine labor archives, the Scontras Center Collection, housed at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn library location.

State Representative Matt Beck (D-South Portland, IBEW 1837) will be awarded the Edie Beaulieu Legislative Award at next week's COPE Convention in Auburn for supporting and being active in every aspect of labor's legislative work and then stepping up to be a union voice in the State Legislature.

When 30-year old George Jabar of Waterville was hired as an organizer for the United Textile Workers of America in 1934, the union didn’t provide any training to help him with the monumental task of organizing the state’s 22,000 textile workers.
