Union Pathways of Maine

Building the next generation of union members and leaders.
Union Pathways introduces Mainers to a wide range of unionized positions in public service, manufacturing, construction, shipping, education, and more.  Through presentations and workplace tours from union members, participants gain a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them so that they can make an informed choice about the career path that's right for them. The program also builds understanding of the benefits and responsibilities of union membership, and what it means to be part of the Labor Movement. Upon completion of the training, our team will work with participants to create resumes, prepare for interviews, and submit applications to the careers that align with their goals.

Our Goals

  • Expand access to union careers by connecting participants with a broad range of union employers in Maine.
  • Prepare participants for success through mentorship, career advising, and support with applications and interviews.
  • Strengthen local unions by training new members who understand the history, values, and responsibilities of organized labor.
  • Support union growth by helping locals address short staffing and build a strong, skilled membership base.
  • Foster employer partnerships to expand registered apprenticeships and career opportunities statewide.

Program Structure

  • Duration: 8–10 days of daily meetings, typically 8 a.m.–4 p.m., M-F.
  • Format: Presentations from union members, workplace tours, and hands-on activities that bring careers to life.
  • Participant Requirements:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Level 4 English or higher
    • Valid work permit
