Workers at the Sappi paper mill in Skowhegan last week ratified a new three-year contract that provides pay raises, addresses forced overtime and improves vacation time and health insurance.

While there were some major labor defeats in elections at the national level, in Maine, we were fortunate in that we were able to re-elect Congressman Jared Golden, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree and Senator Angus King to help fight for us in Congress.

If you haven’t voted yet, we urge you to make a plan to vote to do so this coming Tuesday and consider where candidates stand on issues that impact your pocket book.

This week union canvassers with the Maine AFL-CIO achieved our goal of knocking on 25,000 doors for labor-endorsed candidates for the Maine State House and Senate!
