Last week, the Maine AFL-CIO held its Biennial Convention in Auburn after it was postponed in October due to the mass shooting in Lewiston. In addition to electing a new executive board, delegates from our roughly 200 affiliates elected a President and Vice President.

During the Biennial Convention’s Awards Banquet we heard moving tributes to union members who have gone above and beyond for their members and all workers in Maine.

IBEW 2144 member Dean Gilbert has officially retired after over 40 years working at the Rumford paper mill. Deano, as he is known to his friends and co-workers, is a dedicated union man who has long championed workers’ rights both inside and outside the mill.

Auburn firefighter Michael Scott (IAFF 797) officially became President of the Professional Firefighters of Maine this week. Scott, who also serves on the Maine AFL-CIO Executive Board, was elected as President in September to succeed Michael Crouse as the IAFF association president.
