This week we are mourning the loss of women’s rights activist and state Rep. Lois Reckitt of South Portland, who passed away at the age 78.

As we wrote last week, two members of our union family, Brother Peyton Brewer Ross (IAMAW S6) and Steve Vozella (NALC 241) did not make it home to their families from Schemengee’s Bar & Grill on the night of October 25. Ross left behind a wife and a young daughter.

Dear Residents of Baileyville, 

Yesterday, Maine AFL-CIO President Cynthia Phinney released the following statement on the mass shooting in Lewiston that left nearly 20 people dead, including union members, their relatives and friends:

We wish our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Machinists Local S6 member Peyton Brewer Ross, 40, who was killed by a mass shooter Wednesday evening while he was playing cornhole at Schemengees Bar & Grill in Lewiston.
