Western Maine Labor Council Endorses Mayor Carl Sheline for Reelection

The Western Maine Labor Council has voted to endorse Mayor Carl Sheline for election this November. Mayor Sheline has been a leading voice in Lewiston in support of workers, including the Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) nurses in their efforts to form a union.
“The Western Maine Labor Council is proud to endorse Mayor Carl Sheline for his strong support for workers, especially the 20 CMMC nurses who were fired or suspended for advocating for their patients. Not every elected official will use their soap box to defend workers who have been wronged, but Mayor Sheline demanded Prime cease its union busting, reinstate RNs who were retaliated against and bargain in good faith,” said Linda Deane, President of the Western Maine Labor Council. “Mayor Sheline has also been a staunch advocate for the Union Construction Academy and Union Pathways, which trains diverse workers — including people of color, women, immigrants, veterans and low-income Mainers —for well-paying union careers. Mayor Sheline understands that a union job is the key to economic security for working-class Lewiston residents and supports policies that will create more of these opportunities.”
“Workers and unions have contributed to the bedrock that Lewiston is built on today and I’m proud to have the backing of the local labor movement,” said Mayor Carl Sheline. “Whether it’s supporting local employees right to organize or fighting to keep union jobs at the city, I’ll always support labor.”
The Western Maine Labor Council is an AFL-CIO-affiliated labor organization that unites union members and local unions across Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties in Maine.
