Union Pathways Connects Job Seekers to Training & Union Careers

We are excited to announce the launch of Union Pathways of Maine, a new pilot program to introduce job seekers to a wide range of Union careers, support them through the application process, and educate them about the benefits and responsibilities of union membership! Union Pathways builds on the success of the Union Construction Academy Pre-Apprenticeship and the Postal Jobs Boot Camp, which have trained diverse workers across the state and helped them find rewarding, well-paying union careers.

Our first Union Pathways pilot program will run from October 27 to November 5 in Portland. The goal of Union Pathways Maine is to:
- Expand pathways into union careers by connecting participants with a broad range of unionized fields and registered apprenticeship programs.
- Prepare participants for success through mentorship, career advising, and support with applications and interviews.
- Strengthen Maine union locals by training new members who understand the history of organized labor and the benefits and responsibilities of membership.
- Help local unions address short staffing and grow their membership.
- Build union and employer partnerships with the aim of encouraging registered apprenticeships.
The program includes 8-10 days of daily meetings, typically from 8am-4pm, featuring presentations by union members, workplace tours, and hands-on activities. Requirements for participants include a high school diploma or equivalent.
Can you share this with people you know who are looking to get into a union job?
Union Pathways will serve as an entry point for job seekers to pursue stable, unionized careers, while developing a diverse pipeline of future union members who see themselves as contributors to the broader Labor Movement. In order for this program to be successful we will need unions to get involved by participating in the program, facilitating connections with employers and mentoring graduates who join their unions. Please help us build the Union Pathways of Maine program by sharing ways that you and your union can get involved filling out this form: https://forms.gle/rKSePzmyohriuyrBA
