Union members and community volunteers with the Maine AFL-CIO have knocked on over 45,000 doors and had over 13,000 conversations with Maine voters about why U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson is the best candidate to stop President Trump’s anti-worker agenda and fight to make life more affordable for working-class Mainers.
The size of the door knocking canvass program is growing day to day and week to week. Two weeks ago — as part of a weekend of action that included a rally with the Dropkick Murphys — union members completed:
- 11,722 voters attempted at the door
- 8,745 doors knocked
- 2,096 conversations with targeted voters at the door
“We have never had this much energy in the Maine labor movement for a candidate in recent memory. Union members and community volunteers have been pounding the pavement all over Maine and having meaningful conversations with voters about what is at stake in this election and why Troy Jackson is the best candidate to help improve the lives of ordinary Mainers, lower fuel costs and deliver affordable, quality health care, child care, housing and more,” said Maine AFL-CIO President Cynthia Phinney. “With the full strength of the labor movement behind him, Troy has the momentum to become the very first worker to come out of the labor movement to serve in the U.S. Senate — a body where 73 percent of Senators, including Sen. Susan Collins, are millionaires. We are leaving nothing on the table and are running on all cylinders until election day to send a true working-class Mainer to Washington!”
The Maine AFL-CIO canvass teams are on track to hit at least 50,000 doors by the end of October. The program is part of a larger union effort that includes worksite communications, mail, phones and digital communications.
Over the past several weeks, union members and volunteers have canvassed households in Madawaska, Presque Isle, Caribou, Orono, Old Town, Milford, Veazie, Bangor, Brewer, Bradley, Frankfort, Searsport, Belfast, Northport, Lincolnville, Rockland, South Thomaston, Warren, Augusta, Sidney, Winslow, Fairfield, Skowhegan, Lewiston/Auburn, Poland, Damariscotta, Bath, Brunswick, Topsham, Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Buxton, Westbrook, Gorham, Windham, Falmouth, Biddeford, Saco, Kennebunk, Sanford, Lebanon, Eliot, Kittery, Arundle, Old Orchard Beach, Waterboro, Wells, Ogunquit, the Berwicks, York and many more.
During the Maine AFL-CIO’s Working-Class Rally with the Dropkick Murphys on Oct. 16, union members signed up attendees for 150 canvass shifts and 150 get-out-the-vote shifts for the last few days before the election.
