United Steelworkers members from the Twin Rivers paper mill in Madawaska showed up to support Northern Maine Medical Center nurses this week at First Mile Brewing in Fort Kent. According to the nurses, the union brothers from the mill brought encouraging words and a commitment of their support in the nurses' fight to win their upcoming re-certification vote and their first union contract.

NMMC nurses voted to join the Maine State Nurses Association/NNOC in January 2024 and are bargaining for their first union contract. They have been in negotiations for a year and a half and voted to authorize a strike in September if the hospital continues to refuse to address concerns about safe staffing and fair pay.
