Finding and affording childcare so you can go to work is one of the biggest challenges facing working families today. Waiting lists, limited options, and the cost of child care are all common problems across our state.

Last year, the Maine Legislature heard us and made incredible progress on child care by funding wage supplements to keep child care workers in the field (which=more spots!) and by increasing the income threshold so many more working families qualify for help paying for childcare.

Unfortunately, proposed cuts currently being discussed in Augusta would jeopardize the progress that has been made.

Increasing the threshold for CCAP was a huge victory because it means that many more hard working families -- nurses, teachers, fire fighters, shipbuilders -- will qualify to get some help paying for child care. It would be unfair and short-sighted to roll back this progress. Cutting back wage supplements would mean fewer spots in care, which means parents who can't work.
