Over two years ago, news staff at the Bangor Daily News unionized with News Guild of Maine, Local 31128 of the Communications Workers of America. Unfortunately, they continue to struggle with management to negotiate a first contract. One of the major demands of the news staff is for the company to commit to not outsourcing local journalism to outside companies.

Over the years, the company has outsourced tech work as well as photo assignments to underpaid stringers. Union members are asking for protections from outsourcing to prevent potential attempts to undermine the contract.

Bangor Daily News has been going for 135 years, and now it's time for the BDN to keep local journalists local!

Please tell President Todd Benoit, Senior Vice President Jennifer Holmes and Publisher Richard Warren that you value local news reported and produced locally.

Tell them it's hard to understand how the Bangor Daily News can ask readers for donations supporting local journalism while also refusing to commit to not outsourcing local jobs.
