UMS leaders are invited to discuss the role and responsibilities of our public university system as one of the largest employers in the state.

On Tuesday, December 9th, the University of Maine Graduate Workers Union-UAW will be joined by Senator Mike Tipping, legislators and community leaders for a public discussion about the state of affordability in Maine and the role and responsibilities of our public university system as one of the largest employers in the state. UMS Chancellor Dannel Malloy, UMS Board of Trustees Chair Trish Riley, UM President Joan Ferrini-Mundy and UMS President Jacqueline Edmondson have been invited to attend.

“For many graduate student workers, pay at the Universities of Maine consistently lags behind our peer institutions and falls well below a living wage,” said Hannah Boyle, graduate worker in English at University of Maine. “After more than two years at the bargaining table with the System administration, it’s time for a closer look at how their economic policies impact working people and the state as a whole. We are hopeful that UMS Chancellor Dannel Malloy, UMS Board of Trustees Chair Trish Riley, UM President Joan Ferrini-Mundy and USM President Jacqueline Edmondson can join us for this important discussion.”
