Screening of Film Documenting 1999 Anti-WTO Protests at SPACE Gallery — Feb. 9th

The Maine AFL-CIO is co-sponsoring a screening of the award winning documentary WTO/99 on Monday, February 9th at the SPACE Gallery in Portland. This immersive archival documentary depicts the four-day clash between the then-emerging World Trade Organization (WTO) and the 40,000+ people who took to the streets of Seattle in 1999 to protest the WTO Conference and the WTO’s impact on human rights, labor, and the future effects of continued globalization.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion with Maine AFL-CIO President Cynthia Phinney, Todd Chretien (Maine DSA), and Garrett Martin (Maine Center for Economic Policy). It will be moderated by Matthew Emmick (Scontras Center for Labor and Education). Watch a trailer of the film.
