Request Your Absentee Ballots for November Election Today

On Tuesday November 4, Mainers will vote on two major referendum questions, including an effort to restrict absentee voting. If you would like to exercise your right to vote by mail, you can now request an absentee ballot from the Maine Secretary of State here: justvoteme.org Ballots must be received no later than 8:00 p.m. EDT on Election Day.
Question 1 would restrict access to the ballot box by eliminating two days of absentee voting, prohibiting requests for absentee ballots by phone or family members, ending ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities, banning prepaid postage on absentee ballot return envelopes, limiting the number of absentee ballot drop boxes in a town. The Maine AFL-CIO has voted to oppose Question 1 because it would make it harder for elderly Mainers, people with disabilities and workers who can’t get out of work on election day to vote. We encourage you to Vote No on Question 1.
The Maine AFL-CIO is part of the Save Maine Absentee Voting Coalition, which will be holding a number of upcoming events to raise awareness about the damaging provisions in Question 1. The coalition will be holding its first Weekend of Action to engage hundreds of supporters across the state and talk to thousands of voters on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-5. We will also be focusing on opposing Question 1 at rallies on October 18. Stay tuned for details!
