The Maine chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute will be holding its fourth annual dinneron Sunday, January 18 (MLK Day weekend), from 5-8pm at the Maine Irish Heritage Center in Portland. APRI-ME is the constituency group within the Maine AFL-CIO for members of color and everyone – regardless of color, heritage, or union membership – is welcome at APRI events.
“We are hosting our 4th annual dinner and would like to extend the invitation to more unions in hopes of getting more people of color and allies aware and involved in our efforts,” said Maine APRI President Garrett Stewart.

Speakers for the dinner have not yet been confirmed, but past speakers have included national APRI-ME President Clayola Brown, national AFL-CIO Secretary/Treasurer Fred Redmond, Washington State Labor Council President April Sims, labor activist Bill Fletcher Jr, Maine State Representative Craig Hickman, and the team from Milk with Dignity (as well as members of APRI-ME).
Proceeds from this event are used to cover APRI projects like its Immigration and Labor Workshops and Movie Nights featuring films that highlight the struggles for justice and solidarity for workers across the spectrum. It helps cover expenses to send APRI members to conferences and trainings, continuing to build strong activists and leaders for the labor movement in Maine.
January is a perfect time to be uplifted by good union and community camaraderie, plus good food along with speakers from the frontlines!
