Massive Canvass for Troy Jackson Led By Painters Union President Jimmy Williams Jr.

About 130 union members turned out to knock on doors for Troy Jackson on Saturday as part of a massive canvass led by International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) General President Jimmy Williams, Jr. The special canvass launch, sponsored by the Maine AFL-CIO, was hosted at American Roots, a Westbrook-based union apparel manufacturer. Earlier this year, immigrant workers at the factory were so concerned by ICE’s presence in Maine that religious leaders and community members formed a human barrier so the workers could come and go safely.
“The location for Saturday’s canvass launch is fitting for our current political moment," Jimmy Williams, Jr. said. "Hard-working union members are being hunted down by an administration that promises safety, no war, and an end to inflation, and instead we get the exact opposite, with Susan Collins as a Trump rubber-stamper. What working Mainers need is a real champion, and someone who’s actually worked for a living. That’s Troy Jackson, and I’m proud to head to Maine to support our brother.”
To date, the Maine AFL-CIO has knocked on over 45,000 doors. They are on track to knock 50,000 doors by the end of October.
