Maine Labor to Reactivate State Chapter of the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA)

Plans are underway to reactivate the Maine chapter of the Alliance for Retired Americans. The ARA is an AFL-CIO organization for union retirees. We want to know what contact locals are already maintaining with retirees and how their retirees stay connected with the labor movement. As an affiliate of the national ARA, the Maine chapter will work to protect and strengthen retirement security by championing essential programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. The relaunch of the Maine chapter is also an opportunity to strengthen Labor’s voice on issues that matter to Maine's retirees, including pensions, prescription drug costs, retirement savings, and age discrimination.
To guide our reactivation efforts, the Maine ARA is asking for input from union locals through a new survey. The survey aims to find out which local unions have retiree committees and how they stay connected, identify international unions that have retiree groups available to local members, and seeks suggestions on how locals might better engage with their retired members.
