Maine AFL-CIO Endorses Hannah Pingree for Governor

The Maine AFL-CIO is excited to endorse Hannah Pingree for Governor. We are endorsing Pingree because of her track record of supporting workers, her commitment to economic justice and workers’ rights and a commitment to make progress on key issues like strengthening bargaining rights, improving state employee pay and morale, and building an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.

Hannah had a 100% Maine AFL-CIO labor voting record during her time in the Legislature. She worked very closely with the Professional Firefighters of Maine on key labor legislation. Hannah sponsored and enacted priority workplace and chemical safety legislation, supported a bill to expand health insurance coverage for retiring firefighters and law enforcement – a program that continues to work well to this day – and voted in favor of  legislation to support firefighters who contract cancer from their job.

“Hannah was a stalwart labor supporter in the Legislature. She had a perfect 100% labor voting record over eight years. She worked closely with different unions and got things done, said Matt Schlobohm, Executive Director of the Maine AFL-CIO. “We are excited to work together to strengthen workers’ rights and to address the core pocketbook issues that matter to Mainers – housing, healthcare, childcare and more.”

“Hannah Pingree has been a strong advocate for firefighters and first responders," said retired Auburn firefighter Mike Scott. “During her time in the Legislature she sponsored and passed key workplace safety legislation that was signed into law and voted for our retired first responder health insurance subsidy. Maine’s firefighters need a leader who understands our challenges and will fight to protect our safety and well-being.”
