On May Day, the Maine AFL-CIO’s Labor Chorus made its debut singing “Bread and Roses” and "Solidarity Forever” at the re-dedication for the Jay Strike mural at the Local 14 Solidarity Center in Jay. The labor chorus officially launched in January and has been rehearsing once a month. The chorus is directed by Food AND Medicine Board member and Bangor City Councilor Daniel Carson.

“We're very laid back. There's no audition if you want to come in and make a joyful noise,” said Maine AFL-CIO President and Labor Chorus member Cynthia Phinney. “Daniel is a great director. It's fun and we only practice once a month, so it's not too taxing on anybody's calendar. We’d love to have more folks who want to raise their voices.”

The chorus was founded to provide regular musical accompaniment at various labor events and workers’ struggles. If you would like to join the chorus email Cynthia Phinney at cynthia@maineaflcio.org
