Ironworkers 7 Apprentice Featured in Maine Calling for Women in Construction Week
Last Friday, Maine Public’s Maine Calling featured Ironworkers Local S7 apprentice Kloey Arsenault and pioneering union sister Dale McCormick as part of a show on women in the trades. As part of Women in the Trades Week, the program highlighted the shortage of tradespeople needed to keep up with demand. Women still only make up about 15 percent of the construction workforce in Maine and unions have been working to overcome cultural and social barriers to bring more women into the trades through programs like the Union Construction Academy.
We interviewed Kloey last year about her career path and experience going through the UCA’s six-week pre-apprenticeship program after high school.
