On Thursday, the Maine AFL-CIO officially endorsed Troy Jackson for Governor. Our political committee reviewed questionnaires and interviewed candidates. Our forty-member Executive Board voted to endorse Troy Jackson as the best candidate to serve Maine’s working class.

The Maine AFL-CIO cited three primary reasons for endorsing Troy. First, for the past two decades no one has done more to support unions and workers - showing up on picket lines, pushing legislation forward and helping workers organize. Secondly, Troy has a stellar record of legislative accomplishments including strengthening collective bargaining rights, winning free school lunches, making childcare more affordable, taking on big Pharma and lots more. Finally, Troy has consistently won in a tough district and can build a broad working class coalition with the best shot to win the general election.

"Throughout his two decades in the Maine Legislature, Troy has been a steadfast fighter for working people. As Senate President, Troy fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, workers’ rights and critical policies to lower the cost of living for working class Mainers. Troy has been a leader in working to lower the cost of health care, prescription drugs, child care and housing. Troy understands the struggles of working class people. He knows what it’s like to punch a clock, put in 80 hour weeks and struggle to support a family. We hear a lot about the ‘two Maines’ and the political divide between the cities and rural towns, but Troy can represent all of Maine. Our members are fired up and ready to get involved to make sure Troy Jackson is our next Governor.”
