Please join us on Thursday, February 15at 5:30pm at the Abromson Center, on the ground floor, at the University of Southern Maine-Portland as we celebrate the graduation and accomplishments of the twenty pre-apprentices in the Winter 2024 cohort of the Maine AFL-CIO Union Construction Academy!

Please let us know if you can make it by responding on our Eventbrite page.

After four and a half weeks of intensive training, our pre-apprenticeship participants will receive certifications for industry-recognized credentials including OSHA-10, First-Aid/CPR/AED, asbestos awareness, flagging, scaffolding, and more. The training will provide a foundation for success in registered apprenticeships with Building and Construction Trade Unions, and a pathway to rewarding and stable careers as Union Laborers, Carpenters, Electricians, Plumbers & Pipefitters, Ironworkers, Sheet Metal Workers, Millwrights, Elevator Constructors, Operating Engineers, Painters, and more. After the pre-apprentices have graduated on Thursday, we will work with each of them to complete applications and enter union registered apprenticeships.

Refreshments will be provided beginning at 5 pm, with the graduation ceremony and presentation of credentials starting at 5:30. The Abromson Center is located at 88 Bedford Street, and parking is available in the garage adjacent to the building. Guests will have plenty of opportunities to talk with the pre-apprentices and instructors and learn more about the Maine AFL-CIO Union Construction Academy. Please encourage any who may be interested in future cohorts of the Union Construction Academy to attend and learn more about the program.
