Last week, workers at the Starbucks on Alfred Street in Biddeford successfully unionized the first Starbucks in Maine. The baristas voted 9-3 to unionize the store, bringing the number of unionized Starbucks locations to nearly 200 across the country. The workers told the Portland Press Herald that they were motived to unionize after witnessing so many of their coworkers leave due to inconsistencies in scheduling and low pay.

“I wanted to give them a reason to stay,” Ash Macomber, one of the leaders of the Starbucks Workers United local, said. That’s my ultimate goal: to better everyone’s lives,”

Congratulations to our new Starbucks union members! Welcome to the labor movement!
