Sen. Angus King listens to concerns from Rep. Kilton Webb & federal workers last week.

On Tuesday Senator Angus King issued a statement criticizing President Donald Trump’s executive order that attempts to eliminate collective bargaining rights for nearly a million federal workers. The President’s illegal action repeals union contracts for thousands of workers at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the Togus VA Medical Center, SUPSHIPS at BIW, the VLF Transmitter Naval facility in Cutler, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Limestone and many other federal workplaces.

“The latest Executive Order (EO) barring many federal workers – 30 percent of whom are veterans – from collective bargaining is a blatant executive overreach that removes protection for workers from many forms of retaliation and discrimination,” said Senator King. “The decision to unilaterally remove these protections, under the false premise of a national security breach, is not only inaccurate and illegal, but also professionally harmful to the federal civilian workforce who have served both Republican and Democratic administrations without political interference. I urge the White House to immediately withdraw this unfounded EO so that our federal civil servants can return to service in support of Maine and the American people.”
