Public Hearing on Anti-Worker “Right to Work” for Less Bill — Wed. Feb. 12, 10am
A group of extreme anti-worker politicians have submitted an anti-union "right-to-work" for less law that would make weaken unions and permit workers to gain all the benefits of a union without contributing. The bill would make it illegal to negotiate union security clauses in private sector union contracts. LD 187, "An Act to Prohibit Labor Organizations from Imposing Mandatory Service Fees on Nonmembers," would ban contract agreements between workers and employers that require all workers in a bargaining unit to contribute to the costs of union representation.
The Maine Legislature’s Labor Committee will hold a public hearing on LD 187 on Wednesday, February 12th at 10 AM. Please consider sharing your personal story of what your union means to you and testify against this bill. If you plan to testify or submit written testimony, please email Adam Goode at adam@maineaflcio.org.
In addition to working to defeat "Right to Work" for less, registration is open for this year’s annual Labor Lobby Day on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the State House in Augusta.
These bills are not coming from Maine workers. They are copied and pasted laws from national radical anti-worker organizations that seek to drive down wages and workplace standards for everyone. Currently, the New Hampshire Legislature is considering a similar bill to make the Granite State the 27th state to adopt this anti-worker law. A legislative committee there recommended passage of the bill by a vote of 10-9 on January 28.
Make sure to tell your legislator to OPPOSE this bill to drive down wages and weaken the collective power of working people!
