Maine has joined 17 states in filing a legal challenge to the Trump administration’s Presidential Memorandum blocking federal leasing and permitting of new onshore and offshore wind energy projects.

In a statement, the Maine Labor Climate Council said that investments in wind energy have a "huge potential to bring good union jobs and lower costs while building a sustainable, local clean energy economy that works for all Mainers." It said that Trump's decision to interfere in the development of onshore and offshore wind energy will "hurt working families in Maine."

“Wind power is already meeting energy needs across the country and Mainers have been hard at work to build out offshore wind to meet rising demand," said Grant Provost, Vice President of the Maine AFL-CIO, Business Agent for Iron Workers Local 7 and MLCC board member. "Wind energy is growing, and our skilled workforce is ready to be a part of that growth. Halting permits for wind energy projects only sets us back from building a clean energy future.”
