Join the APRI for a Portland Old Port Walking Tour Highlighting Stories of Marginalized Communities
Join the A. Philip Randolph Institute Maine Chapter for a Portland Old Port Walking Tour with Seth Goldstein of the group Atlantic Black Box on Saturday, April 30 in Portland at 1pm. Taking inspiration from Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States, this tour through Portland’s Old Port highlights the stories of the city’s historically marginalized communities.
From the colonial assault on Indigenous peoples to the enslavement of Africans, Atlantic Black Box Education Coordinator Seth Goldstein will help to reveal the brutal realities hidden behind many of our finest facades while projecting onto the built environment the many contributions of the resilient and extraordinary individuals who lived and labored here.
The group will gather at 12:45pm and the tour lasts approximately two hours. The cost is $10. Assistance available if you cannot afford the event cost.
