4th Amendment Workplace Workshop — Mon. Dec. 8 - Portland

Learn how to prepare for and respond to unconstitutional federal searches in the workplace on Monday, December 8, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Equality Community Center, at 15 Casco St. in Portland. This workshop is organized by Southern Maine Workers' Center, Prevention Action Change, and Presente! Maine.
The 4th Amendment states that law enforcement from any agency must show a warrant signed by a judge, showing the name and address of the person under investigation, before entering a private residence or establishment. Workplace detentions, and detentions overall, are rising across the US. Here in Cumberland County, there were over 60 people detained in ICE custody at our local jail at the latest count. Many federal agents doing workplace immigration arrests in 2025 have been violating the 4th Amendment. Join the workshop to learn how to protect your 4th Amendment rights in the workplace. At the workshop you will:
- Learn 4th amendment rights
- Learn how to set a workplace up, physically and in terms of communication plans, to be resilient against unconstitutional activity
- Practice together and build confidence
- Track legal questions
Prepare workers to start having this conversation with stakeholders at work and bring training materials back to your workplace. The workshop presenters will not give legal advice or make detailed plans for your specific workplace. Note that this space is open to workers and business owners/management. Masks available and heavily encouraged.
