The new Charles A. Scontras Labor Center at the University of Southern Maine is getting off the ground after becoming an “official center” of University of Southern Maine in September of 2022. With the new director, Matthew Emmick, officially on board, a search committee has selected four finalist candidates for a teaching position at the center. All four candidates will be on campus over the next three weeks and you are invited to meet them!

The teaching fellow will design labor education workshops, courses, certificate programs, trainings, symposia, and conferences that strengthen worker power and facilitate workplace democracy. The center will serve both existing members and leaders of unions and labor organizations and the broader Maine working class, including low-income workers and Maine’s immigrant communities.

Besides a long interview with the search committee and a chance to meet key people on campus, USM will host informal lunches where you can meet the teaching fellow candidates, and each candidate has been asked to give a teaching session that will be open to the public and accessible either in person or on Zoom. All in-person locations are on the USM Portland campus. All candidates were asked to prepare their teaching session based on one of four prompts.

Links to register to attend the teaching sessions via Zoom will be available soon. Sign up here to be notified when Zoom links are availalble, or check back here.
