VIDEO: When Bath Shipbuilders Launched a General Strike for the Shorter Work Day

The Maine AFL-CIO and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Local S6 at Bath Iron Works have released a new video about the fight of Bath shipbuilders for the ten-hour day. The video features retired Local S6 member John Portela narrating the story of how Bath shipbuilders organized a general trades union and launched a city wide general strike — the first in Maine! The video is the first in a series about the history shipbuilding unions in Bath and at Bath Iron Works.
