Governor Janet Mills has appointed former Maine AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Ned McCann to the state Unemployment Insurance Commission, which handles appeals of unemployment eligibility decisions and job training programs.

“At the risk of sounding corny, it is a real honor to be nominated and confirmed as the Labor Representative to the Maine Unemployment Commission. I am grateful to Governor Mills for this appointment, and am so proud to have had the support of the Maine AFL-CIO. Thank you,” said McCann.

McCann also previously served as the Vice President of the Maine Children's Alliance and as Deputy Commissioner and director of the Bureau of Employment Services of the Maine Department of Labor.

“Unemployment compensation works to help workers and communities manage during hard times," McCann added. "The process can be complex and difficult. As the labor representative on the commission, it is my job to make sure ordinary Maine workers get a fair shake in the appeals process. I will do my best to justify the confidence placed in me.”
