The Women of Steel chapter from USW 900 at the Rumford mill had a very successful October. The USW women raised about $800 selling candy apples, whoopee pies and other treats at the River Valley Pumpkin Fest in Rumford on October 14.

"Women of Steel ladies had a great day and sold just about every item made," the group reported. "Thanks to all the ladies for baking and volunteering!"

Women of Steel will decide what to do with the money at its next meeting. Last year WoS donated proceeds from Pumpkin Fest to purchase coloring books, crayons, markers and colored pencils for hospital patients at Rumford Hospital, people with disabilities and nursing home residents. WoS also gave out candy to over 500 trick-or-treaters at this year's "Trunk or Treat" outside the Mexico Town hall.

"We did very well," said WoS member Judilee Whittemore. "We had some people donate candy and got some donations from the union  too. It was a lot of fun!"
