Union members have been pounding the pavement hard in Kennebec County to talk to voters about House District 56 candidate Kent Ackley, Senator Craig Hickman, who has been a champion for labor causes in the Maine Legislature and Governor Janet Mills. We’ve made contact with thousands of voters in targeted state senate districts, including both door-to-door canvassing and phone calls.

Senator Hickman is the 2021 winner of the Edie Beaulieu Award in recognition of his outstanding service to Maine workers. As the former Senate Chair of the Legislative Labor and Housing Committee, he led efforts to raise wages, fix inequities in state unemployment system, strengthen collective bargaining rights and improve labor standards on publicly funded construction projects. He has also always supported working people when they are forming unions.

Former Rep. Kent Ackley previously served two terms (2016-2020) in the Maine House where he consistently earned high scores on our Working Families Legislative Scorecard for his support for key labor priorities.
