Teamsters members held a rally in Lewiston on August 22 in support of United Ambulance Service first responders who have been negotiating a contract since early 2023. Teamsters Local 340 represents about 100 workers at the United Ambulance facilities in Lewiston and Bridgton. United Ambulance is owned by Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Local 340 Treasurer Ed Marzano told the Lewiston Sun Journal that not much progress is being made in contract negotiations and accused United Ambulance of union busting because it refuses to agree to a union security clause to ensure all represented members share the costs of representation and collective bargaining.

“The union’s committed to meet and negotiate in good faith with the company, but they need to change their posture,” he said. “… They deserve a fair contract; they deserve to have these protections and rights.”
