The Eastern Maine Labor Council and Food AND Medicine are busy planning its 22nd Annual Solidarity Harvest for Mainers in need this Thanksgiving and need our support! This year the group is aiming to distribute 1,675 locally-sourced meal boxes for union member and other Mainers who have fallen on hard times. Each meal box includes nearly 30 pounds of produce, which is enough food for 8-10 people.

Can you sponsor a meal or volunteer to help assemble boxes between November 15th - November 26th? There are two shifts each day: morning shift 9am - 12:30pm and afternoon shift 1:30pm - 4:30pm. Feel free to bring a friend, bring a class, bring a group, or just yourself (just indicate so on the sign up form). Lunch will be provided between shifts so we hope you’ll stay after or come early!

Volunteer for Solidarity Harvest

The first Solidarity Harvest was in 2003, when the group distributed 100 meals; in 2023, it distributed 1,653. Over 200 volunteers and over 100 organizations, including unions, faith organizations and other nonprofits were involved. Funds are raised to purchase produce from smaller Maine farms and food producers, which is assembled by volunteers and distributed The project is about solidarity, not charity!
