Support Maine Health Interpreters Fighting for a Fair Contract
It's been one year since Maine Health Interpreters voted unanimously to form their unionwith the Maine Service Employees Association (SEIU 1989) and they have been negotiating for twelve months to reach a fair contract. The workers provide language interpretation services for patients for whom English is not their first language. While the interpreters have made significant progress, some crucial issues remain to be addressed:
- A fair system of scheduling that prioritizes more patients and providers having access to local, in-person interpreters.
- Fair wages that value interpreters’ professional skills, experience and service to the communities.
- A voice in training, career development and the future of their work.
