Workers should be paid for all the hours they work. By voting against LD 1524, Senator Robert Foley (York County) voted to protect CEOs and corporations who don’t pay their workers.

LD 1524 provides workers with stronger remedies when a company commits wage theft and doesn’t pay them for their hours worked.

Wage theft occurs when companies:

  • Refuse to pay the minimum wage and overtime
  • Misclassify workers as independent contractors to avoid paying taxes, workers compensation and benefits
  • Force employees to work off the clock
  •  Simply don’t pay workers or fail to pay them their last paycheck

Wage theft is deeply harmful to working people and is unfair to the majority of Maine businesses who play by the rules.

Workers need stronger tools to make sure they get paid for the hours they work!
