A. Philip Randolph Institute - Maine’s Annual Gathering returns this year on Saturday, February 15 for an  Immigration and Labor Workshop followed by an evening banquet featuring special guest labor scholar and activist Bill Fletcher Jr.

The Immigration and Labor Workshop, which will be facilitated by the APRI and the Maine Bureau of Labor Education, is free and open to the public and will run from noon to 3:30pm at the Irish Heritage Center in Portland. The banquet starts at 5pm and will be followed by presentations by Bill Fletcher Jr. and organizers with the Milk with Dignity Campaign.

Fletcher is a very engaging speaker and fascinating writer about race and labor issues. He is the co-author (with Peter Agard) of “The Indispensable Ally: Black Workers and the Formation of the Congress of Industrial Organizations, 1934-1941”; the co-author (with Dr. Fernando Gapasin) of “Solidarity Divided: The crisis in organized labor and a new path toward social justice“; and the author of “‘They’re Bankrupting Us’ – And Twenty other myths about unions.”

The Milk with Dignity campaign is a movement of farmworkers and allies calling on dairy companies and grocery chains like Hannaford to ensure respect for human rights in their supply chains by joining the worker-driven Milk with Dignity Program.

Tickets are $40 for the banquet. Reserve your tickets here!

At the time we are going to print, APRI Maine is finalizing the location for the event. It will be held in the Portland area. Location details will be shared as soon as they are finalized.
