Do you want to improve your internal communications with your members and communicate better with the public and the media? Join the Maine AFL-CIO and the Scontras Center for Labor and Community Education for a Communications Bootcamp this spring!
This is a six session bootcamp on communications best practices for union staff, organizers, and leaders in Maine. The Communications Bootcamp will train you how to connect with, empower and educate union membership, our communities and all working Mainers to further the cause of labor. Sessions to be held every second and fourth week of the month from April 12 to June 26 include:
• Communications basics and best Practices
• Conversation starters: flyers, mailers, print media & zines
• Earned media, press releases, op-eds & letters to the editor
• New Media, Websites, Social Media Posts & Email Blasts
• Union & workplace newsletters
• Videos, podcasts & more!

Workshops will be Wednesdays from noon to 2pm with simultaneous sessions in-person at University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine AFL-CIO Union Hall in Augusta, University of Maine in Orono, and online via Zoom.
The Maine AFL-CIO and Scontras Center bootcamp will bring communications professionals in Maine and across the United States together with union staff, organizers, leaders as well as those involved in workers’ and non-profit organizations to build capacity around communications.
Sessions will take place begin on April 10th with subsequent sessions on April 24, May 8, May 22, June 12, and June 26); Free / No-Cost; Open to all Union Organizers, Staff, and Leaders as well and Workers’ Organizations and Neighboring Non-Profits in Maine; We are asking that established unions and non-profits send cohorts to the bootcamp.
