Maine paper mills are increasingly forcing workers to work longer and longer and doing multiple shifts in a row to make up for a lack of staffing. The widespread use of forced overtime is not only a major workplace safety and public safety issue, it’s also taking a massive toll on workers and their families.

On Thursday, May 18 at 1pm the Legislature's Labor and Housing Committee will hold a public hearing on LD 1794.  The bill would place restrictions on mandatory overtime and schedule changes for employees in the pulp and paper industry. This a very important bill for our USW brothers and sisters and they can use our support. If you would like to submit written testimony or, better yet, testify in person on this critical legislation, please email Adam@maineaflcio.org or call 991-7000.
