Portland Press Herald Employees Ratify New Contract with Maine Today Media

Congratulations to the News Guild of Maine (TNG/CWA 31128) who recently bargained a new two-year contract for workers at the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. 

“News Guild members came together in a rapid and powerful demonstration of solidarity and secured an agreement with Maine Today Media that provides fair raises and better working conditions,” said News Guild of Maine President Peter McGuire in a statement.

After bargaining for a little more than a month, the new contract includes:  

  • 2 percent annual raises in 2021 and 2022 
  • $600 signing bonus 
  • $1 increase in hourly rate for night shifts in distribution  
  • 12-weeks paid parental leave 
  • Paid holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 
  • An apprenticeship program for distribution careers 
  • Guarantee of News Guild representation on a permanent company diversity and inclusion council 
  • Guarantee of News Guild representation on any company committee convened to discuss compulsory return to office
