We send our condolences to USW 900 and the family of Arthur Allen, 65, who passed away suddenly of natural causes at the Nine Dragons Mill in Rumford on Sunday, November 15. A resident of Peru, Allen was a graduate of Mexico High School and worked in the maintenance department of the Rumford mill for about 40 years. He was a member of the Hazmat Team and Chief of the ERT Team in the Mill. He was scheduled to retire in January.

According to his obituary, Arthur will be remembered as being kindhearted, a gentle giant and larger than life. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and diving. USW 900 President John Perry said Allen was a proud union man and very well liked and respected at the mill.

“Art was a great guy and someone people looked up to,” said Perry. “He was very community oriented and well liked by everyone. He was a strong voice on the floor and voice to be reckoned with for sure. He was well put together and a had a lot of friends and very few enemies.”

Union member Scot Grassette added on Facebook, "Lots of respect for this man. He was a go-to guy when looking for a second opinion when I was a safety advocate. He just knew so much at the top of his head. R.I.P Big Art.
