On Monday, a supermajority of MaineHealth interpreters announced their intention to form a union together with MSEA SEIU 1989 and filed for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board. In their announcement, the group stated:

"We are coming together as Maine Health interpreters for respect, equality, a fair wage, and a real voice. Our work is deeply important for providers, patients, and families, and we deserve to be treated like the vital and professional employees that we are. Our skills are unique, our services are essential, and our work cannot be effectively replicated with telephone or video services. Although we all may work with different patients and languages, we are united by our shared values and principles.”

The NLRB will determine a date and method of election in the coming weeks.
