The next meeting of the Labor Reading Group will be held on Zoom on Thursday, January 25  5:30-6:30. The group will begin reading Eric Blanc's book Red State Revolt, which covers the teachers' strikes in West Virginia, Arizona, and Oklahoma. It provides a vivid picture of the labor movement in the non-industrial "care" economy sector that includes health care, social work, education and more. Blanc discusses how public sector workers are taking collective action in conservative "red states" where labor laws make it difficult or even illegal. It also explores the relationships between international affiliate leadership and resources and grassroots dynamism.

If you buy a copy of Red State Revolt from publisher Verso Books, you can get 40 percent off the list price ($19.95) by signing up for email notices. In addition, Verso is having an end-of-year sale that will save up to 50% on a wide range of titles on history, theory, and policy issues. Haymarket Books is another venerable lefty publisher with a good end-of-year sale.
