Another Labor Day is nearly upon us and it's time to celebrate the true meaning of the holiday by renewing our pledges to fight for dignity, fair wages and the freedom to join a union. Please join us in the spirit of solidarity at Labor Day events in Portland, Winslow and Brewer! 

  • *Free* Central Maine Council Labor Day BBQ— Fort Halifax Park in Winslow, Sunday, September 4th from 11am-2pm. Burgers, hotdogs, & a blueberry pie eating contest! 
  • *Free* Southern Maine Labor Council Annual Labor Day Breakfast — Monday, September 5th at the Irish Heritage Center, 34 Gray St, Portland. Free! Doors open at 7am and programming begins at 8am. Please reserve your seat in advance because they fill up fast! To reserve a seat email bondocon@atlanticbb.net
  • Eastern Maine Labor Council & Food AND Medicine Labor Day Celebration — Monday, September 5th; 4-7pm outdoors on the banks of the Penobscot River at the Solidarity Center at 20 Ivers Street in Brewer. Join us for local hamburgers and red hot dogs, and bring your favorite pot luck side, salad or dessert. Suggested donation of $5/person to help cover costs of the event, kids < 12 are free, or $12/family.  
  • Labor in the Pulpit — Our Labor and Faith Liaison Mike Seavey is working with union members and their faith leaders to incorporate labor issues into their church services on Labor Day weekend. He has prepared materials to offer congregations and faith communities preaching resources that reflect on the impact the pandemic has had on workers, particularly front line workers who lost their lives to COVID. If you would like your church, synagogue, mosque or faith community to participate, contact him at mike@maineaflcio.org
  • *Free* Labor Film Screening & Pizza — The Western Maine Labor Council will be showing a film on the history of Labor Day at their September meeting. The meeting will be in person with refreshments. Tuesday, September 20, from 6 to 7pm in Lewiston – location TBA.
