Thirty union members from all over Maine took part in our day long Labor 2024 canvass training on Wednesday to give workers the tools they need to engage voters as we work to elect pro-labor candidates to the Maine Legislature. Union members and volunteers learned about the pro-labor candidates for the Maine House and Senate we have endorsed, how to effectively talk to voters about our issues and how to have deeper conversations. All of the attendees will spend time knocking on doors this fall. This year, we have teams canvassing all over Maine to build the power of the labor movement and elect union members and pro-labor candidates.

At the training workers identified their own "why" - what's important to them this election.  We reviewed some of labor victories we've won in the state and federally and we spent a lot of time practicing all parts of our canvass conversations. We broke the conversations down into smaller parts - introducing yourself and making a connection, asking open ended questions, IDing where someone stands - and then put them together into a full conversation. We broke into our regional teams and everyone left inspired.

If you are interested in doing some door knocking for union endorsed candidates this fall - either on a weekend or part time or full time basis - let Adam know, adam@maineaflcio.org.
