There will be a community benefit on Saturday, April 15 for Maine Service Employees Association SEIU 1989 member Jeff Kelley, who was severely injured in a work-related accident while working at Southern Maine Community College last year. The event will be held from 1 to 5pm at American Legion Post 197, Rt 25 in Westbrook and will feature food, music, a cash bar and a raffle. Admission is free and all proceeds will go to help Jeff and his family. Below is a message from IBEW 2327 President Kevin Conley, who is a childhood friend of Kelley’s and is helping to organize the event in his personal capacity.

In August of last year Jeff was at work, and while retrieving a bag of trash (as he had done many times before), he obtained a scratch as the bag brushed his leg. Twenty-four hours later he was admitted to the ICU at Maine Medical Center, where he spent the next four months fighting a life-threatening infection. He underwent multiple surgeries, but ultimately lost his right leg. Though Jeff is currently recovering at home and awaiting a prosthetic, he still faces months of rigorous physical therapy and a lifetime of medical care and interventions relating to his injury.

At our upcoming benefit, we will be raffling off prizes to raise funds to support our friend Jeff, his wife Lisa, and their two young daughters. All money raised will be donated to the Kelley family to help ease the financial burden of daunting medical bills and lost income.

If you have any questions or would like to make a donation to make a difference in the lives of the Kelley family please call or text Kevin Conley at 207-329-3247 or email him at VinCon1969@yahoo.com
