Are You Involved in Your Local Church, Synagogue, Mosque or Other Faith Community?

Throughout history, faith communities have provided essential support to workers and unions. Faith leaders have stood shoulder to shoulder with us on picket lines and proclaimed the justice of our cause from pulpits and public gatherings.

Now is a good time to renew and strengthen these relationships. How does your faith inform or inspire your relationship with your union or your sense of justice in the workplace? This Labor Day we again encourage union members to reach out to their faith leaders and consider offering to say a few brief words about the connections between your faith and labor during the regular services on Labor Day weekend or the following weekend. This is the Labor in the Pulpit program.

Mike Seavey is available to help you think about both approaching your faith leaders and putting together the words you’d like to speak to your congregation. Mike is a former faith leader who volunteers with the Maine AFL-CIO to help unions connect faith and labor. You can reach Mike at mike at maineaflcio DOT org.

Even if you aren’t ready to say a few words to your full congregation, Mike would love to hear from you! Would you take a moment to fill out our faith & labor survey?
