The Westbrook-based apparel company American Roots (USW 366) has recently entered into an official licensing partnership with the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association, the union representing NWSL players.
“The company is now taking preorders for the only officially licensed women’s professional soccer fan gear made ethically in America by Union labor,” wrote company founder Ben Waxman on Facebook.
United Steelworkers Local 366 members manufacture American Roots apparel sourced from materials made in the USA. The company says that the collaboration with the NWSL player’s union “aims to promote a brighter future for women's soccer and empower fans to support their favorite players with values-driven apparel.”
“It’s a exciting and a foot in the door of something bigger. The company is only ten years old now and things have grown rapidly here at American Roots and this is another step forward,” said USW 366 member Dave Butler, who works at American Roots. “It’s an exciting time for women’s sports in getting more recognition so it’s an exciting time for us too.”
