We are very sad to report of the sudden passing of AFSCME Local 2968 President Corey Alley earlier this month after a health emergency. Alley served as the President of Local 2968, which represents state corrections officers, from 2020 until his death. His father Rock Alley, former President of the Maine Lobstering Union (IAM 207) said that seeing the world through his eldest son’s eyes "has been a treasure.”

“You reshaped my world and literally saved me. Your quick, dry wit filled my world with laughter. You were the anchor that kept me grounded, my true north,” wrote Alley on Facebook. “My first born, my greatest gift. You made me so proud to be your dad. My heart is broken, our family will never be the same. May you rest in peace, Corey Lee., aka Big Bobby.”

Corey Alley worked at Downeast Correctional Facility in Machiasport before going to work at Maine Correctional Center in Windham, where he served as unit chair from 2016 to 2018. AFSCME 2968 Vice President Kevin Dionne said that Alley “would have given the shirt off his back” for anyone and never asked for any recognition for the work he did on behalf of his members.

“People don’t realize that being the AFSCME President, there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that I’m just finding out about, but he would never take recognition for his successes,” said Dionne. "He would always take it on the chin for what people thought he didn’t do and never complain about it.”

He said Alley played a key role in the expansion of MCC and ensuring the facility is run safely and efficiently.

“His wife Farrah was his ultimate, ultimate soul mate. He really loved her unconditionally. If there was two people who were meant to be together it was them two,” Dionne added. “You couldn’t ask for a better guy, a better friend, a better person.”
